Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Charge Involving a Death
Buffalo, NY - A convicted felon, Jason Yelder, 38, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, resulting in a death.
The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life in prison, and an $8,000,000 fine.
On July 15, 2019, Yelder was arrested at a hotel on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, where he was found to be in possession of 21 baggies containing a total of approximately 30 grams of between 98% and 99% pure methamphetamine.
Yelder also admitted to distributing methamphetamine to an individual, K.L., who later died on May 28, 2019, near the train tracks at 355 Lakefront Boulevard in Buffalo.
The toxicology report revealed methamphetamine in K.L.'s system, and the medical examiner concluded that, but for the methamphetamine, K.L. would not have died.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Buffalo Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 30, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo in U.S. District Court.
