Javier Correa, Fentanyl Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2021

WILLIAMSPORT - A Scranton man is facing a maximum life sentence after pleading guilty to fentanyl trafficking, along with methamphetamine and firearm possession charges. Javier Correa, age 40, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute before U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion on an unspecified date in 2021.

The case was investigated by the DEA, the Scranton Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Parole officers. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Gallagher are prosecuting the case.

According to U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, Correa admitted to possessing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and a firearm in April 2021, during a search of his Scranton residence by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a joint federal, state, and local initiative, is prosecuting this case. PSN aims to reduce violent crime by working together with stakeholders to identify and address pressing issues in the community.

Correa faces a maximum term of life imprisonment and a fine for his crimes. A sentence will be imposed by the Judge after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking and other violent crimes in the region. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
