Javier M. Sanchez, Drug Trafficking and Gun Crimes, Idaho 2019
A Boise, Idaho man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking and gun crimes ring.
Javier M. Sanchez, 35, was sentenced on August 21, 2019 by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
The investigation, led by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Idaho, discovered that Sanchez was involved in a large-scale drug trafficking operation that distributed methamphetamine and other narcotics in the Treasure Valley area of Idaho.
Sanchez's sentencing is part of the revitalized Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime in communities across the country.
According to FBI figures released this week, the estimated number of violent crimes in the nation decreased for the second consecutive year in 2018, with a 3.9 percent decrease from 2017 numbers.
In Idaho, while the state saw an increase of 1.95 percent in 2018, it has the lowest violent crime rate among the Western region and the sixth-lowest in the country.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Idaho has partnered with all levels of law enforcement and local organizations to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
‘The revitalized Project Safe Neighborhoods program is a major success,’ said Attorney General William P. Barr. ‘It packs a powerful punch by combining advanced data with local leadership, further reducing violence in communities across the country and improving overall public safety.
‘State, local, tribal, and federal partners’ cooperation has been vital to the successful implementation of Project Safe Neighborhoods in Idaho,’ said U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis. ‘Through these combined efforts, many violent and dangerous offenders have been removed from our streets.
