Jayon Everett Perrin, Possessing Stolen Mail, Ohio 2023

Jayon Everett Perrin, a 22-year-old Dayton man, was sentenced to 32 months in prison for unlawfully possessing stolen mail.

In October 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Perrin’s Dayton apartment and discovered a slew of evidence pointing to his guilt, including a postal service key, a United States Postal Service logo jacket, $6,000 in cash, more than 500 checks, and approximately 15 debit or credit cards.

The checks had payable amounts ranging from approximately 50 cents to $282,000. The stolen mail also included sensitive forms and documents, such as a federal tax return, payment slips for medical and dental bills, and a loan-forgiveness application.

Moreover, Perrin was found to possess equipment and supplies for cloning debit and credit cards and altering stolen checks.

Perrin was charged federally in October 2022 and pleaded guilty in September 2023.

The sentencing was announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and Lesley Allison, Inspector in Charge, U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Pittsburgh Division, on March 5. Perrin’s case was represented by Assistant United States Attorneys Rob Painter and Elizabeth L. McCormick.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge Walter H. Rice imposed the 32-month prison sentence on Perrin for his crimes.

Perrin’s involvement in the case highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting sensitive information.
