Defendant Faces Life in Prison for Heroin Trafficking and Conspiracy
Raleigh, North Carolina - Jayson McNeil, a 28-year-old resident of Raleigh, has been found guilty of distributing heroin and fentanyl that resulted in a person's death.
A federal jury delivered the verdict in a four-day trial, concluding on April 27, 2020. McNeil faces a minimum of twenty years and up to life imprisonment for his crimes.
According to the evidence presented in court, McNeil operated a long-standing heroin organization in Raleigh, distributing the deadly substance to numerous individuals, which led to multiple overdoses. This ultimately culminated in the May 30, 2018 overdose death of a 27-year-old man in the Raleigh area.
Co-conspirator Destin McLean had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute one kilogram of heroin before the trial.
United States Attorney Robert J. Higdon, Jr., commented, 'This case is one example of the danger that the distribution and use of fentanyl and heroin presents for people all across this country.'
The investigation was conducted by the Wake County Sheriff's Office, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, the United States Attorney's Office, and the United States Marshals Service. Special Assistant United States Attorney Kelly L. Sandling and Assistant United States Attorney Thomas L. Crosby prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
