Jayson Quinones, Heroin Distribution, Massachusetts 2020

A Holyoke man was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Springfield for distributing heroin.

Jayson Quinones, 35, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni to 14 months in prison and three years of supervised release. In May 2020, Quinones pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing with intent to distribute heroin.

Quinones sold heroin on October 7, 2019, in Holyoke. The arrest was the result of a multi-agency investigation into heroin trafficking in Holyoke dubbed 'Operation Open Air.'

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling; Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division; Colonel Christopher Mason, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; and Holyoke Police Chief Manny Febo made the announcement. Assistant United States Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of Lelling's Springfield Branch Office prosecuted the case.

Quinones' sentence is a result of his involvement in the heroin trade, which has plagued the city of Holyoke. The 'Operation Open Air' investigation aimed to disrupt and dismantle heroin trafficking networks in the area.

As part of his supervised release, Quinones will be subject to strict conditions, including regular check-ins with his probation officer and any additional requirements determined by the court.

The case is a reminder of the ongoing struggle against heroin trafficking in Massachusetts and the importance of law enforcement's efforts to keep communities safe.
