Waterbury Cocaine Distributor Sentenced to 40 Months in Federal Prison
A local man has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for his role in a significant cocaine trafficking operation in Waterbury, Connecticut. Jean Carlos Fabal-Gonzalez, 26, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine, according to the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, John H. Durham.
Fabal-Gonzalez was arrested on March 20, 2019, following a joint investigation by the DEA New Haven Task Force and the Waterbury and Naugatuck Police Departments. A search of his residence at the time of his arrest revealed a handgun and more than $31,000 in cash.
The investigation revealed that Fabal-Gonzalez supplied cocaine to Carlos Morais of Waterbury, who in turn supplied cocaine to Keith Jordan, the head of the trafficking operation. Jordan and 26 others were charged in a grand jury indictment on March 13, 2019, with various federal offenses related to the distribution of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine.
Fabal-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine on January 21, 2020. He has been detained since his arrest and is a citizen of the Dominican Republic. He may face immigration proceedings when he completes his prison term.
Fabal-Gonzalez was sentenced to 40 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, according to U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall. The sentencing occurred via videoconference, as allowed by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
The investigation was led by the DEA New Haven Task Force, with critical assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, New York Field Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys S. Dave Vatti and Nathaniel J. Gentile.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the flow of illicit narcotics into Connecticut communities. As a result of this operation, four defendants have been sentenced to federal prison terms, including Fabal-Gonzalez. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
