Jeffrey Carley, Investment Scheme, Washington 2021

Published October 7, 2022

Investment broker Jeffrey Carley has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for his role in an investment scheme that targeted older clients.

The crime, which took place in Spokane, Washington, involved Carley stealing money from his victims' retirement accounts.

According to court documents, Carley's scheme began in September 2021, and he was arrested and charged with investment fraud in October 2021.

Carley's sentence is the result of a joint investigation by the Eastern District of Washington and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The scheme, which targeted older adults, is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable members of our community.

As part of the Eastern District's elder fraud efforts, the U.S. Attorney's Office engages in outreach to the community and industry to raise awareness about scams and exploitation and preventing victimization.

Additionally, the Eastern District partnered with DEA on Operation Engage, which worked directly with the community, especially pharmacies and pharmacists, to educate and work with the public and health care practitioners to safeguard the community from opioids and prescription fraud.
