Rochester Man Sentenced to 8 Months Home Confinement for Possession of Child Pornography

A 24-year-old man from Rochester, New York, has been sentenced to 8 months home confinement and 8 years supervised release for possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Jeffrey Wehs was convicted of the crime and sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.

The investigation into Wehs' activities began when the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force executed a search warrant at his residence in Rochester on September 18, 2019. The search warrant was issued following a cybertip from an online social media company that indicated an account holder had uploaded an image of child pornography. Investigators traced the child pornography to Wehs' apartment and seized his computer, which contained multiple images and videos of child pornography.

Wehs, who will also have to register as a sex offender, was sentenced to serve 8 months of home confinement followed by 8 years of supervised release. The defendant's computer was seized during the investigation and a preliminary review revealed multiple images and videos of child pornography.

The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Rossi, who stated that the members of the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force executed the search warrant at Wehs' residence in Rochester following the cybertip from the online social media company. The tip indicated that an account holder had uploaded an image of child pornography using the company's messaging application.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia. The task force works to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in the exploitation of children.
