Published September 25, 2024

PIERRE, South Dakota - In a shocking case of methamphetamine distribution, Jennifer Walsh, a 44-year-old woman from Antioch, California, has been sentenced to eight years and one month in federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Walsh was convicted of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, a federal crime.

Walsh was sentenced on September 23, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte. As part of her sentence, she will also serve three years of supervised release and pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

The investigation into Walsh's activities began on November 24, 2022, when she and her co-defendant Andrea Pitts were pulled over by the South Dakota Highway Patrol for speeding on I-90 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. A K-9 drug detection dog was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of drugs.

A search of the vehicle revealed five pounds of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment. It is alleged that Walsh and Pitts were transporting the drugs from California to South Dakota where they would be distributed.

This case was investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.

Walsh was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following her sentencing. Pitts is scheduled to be sentenced on October 8, 2024.
