Attempted Robbery Shakes Milford Community

A brazen attempt at robbery shook the small town of Milford, Pennsylvania, when Jeremiah Anderson, 29, of Port Jervis, New York, allegedly tried to rob a convenience store on October 5, 2011. The Hilltop Sunoco / Extra Mart, a local staple, was the target of Anderson's ill-fated heist.

According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Anderson and an accomplice, Daviandra Green, entered the store and attempted to rob it without success. Green, who was also charged with the offense, pleaded guilty on January 8, 2014, and is currently awaiting sentencing.

The investigation into the attempted robbery was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus has been assigned to prosecute the case.

Criminal Informations are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilty is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The maximum penalty under the federal statute for this offense is 20 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The Judge must consider and weigh a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances, and seriousness of the offense, the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant's educational, vocational, and medical needs.

As the community continues to reel from the attempted robbery, residents are left to wonder what could have been if Anderson's plans had succeeded. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and community involvement in preventing and solving crimes.
