Jeremiah Farmer, Murder and Racketeering, Indiana 2019
HAMMOND, Indiana - A brutal crime has landed a notorious gang member behind bars for life. Jeremiah Farmer, 39, a member of the Chicago-based Latin Kings, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a racketeering conspiracy that included two murders and a drug conspiracy.
In July 2019, a jury found Farmer guilty of conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute cocaine, marijuana, and alprazolam. The racketeering conspiracy charge alleged that Farmer and other gang members were involved in murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, sex trafficking, and narcotics distribution.
As part of the racketeering conspiracy, Farmer was found to have murdered Marion Lowry, 74, and Harvey Siegers, 67, by beating them to death with a hammer on June 25, 1999, at their Hammond business, Calumet Auto Rebuilders. The jury also found that Farmer conspired to distribute or possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.
Farmer's sentence is a result of an investigation led by the FBI, ATF, and local law enforcement agencies. The investigation was conducted under the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program, a partnership between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. The principal mission of OCDETF is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and money laundering organizations.
Forty-three defendants have been charged with racketeering conspiracy as members of the Latin Kings in a criminal conspiracy extending back to 1999. The racketeering conspiracy charge alleges that gang members and associates were participants in a racketeering conspiracy that involved murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, sex trafficking, and narcotics distribution.
The U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Indiana, prosecuted the case, with assistance from the Lake County Prosecutor's Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Nozick and Nicholas J. Padilla handled the case.
