A Jackson man has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison for his role in a gun-related crime. Jeremy Jerome Fletcher, 28, was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to court documents, on December 13, 2017, officers with the Jackson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Highway 80 near Valley Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Fletcher was a passenger in the vehicle, which was occupied by three individuals. Upon running a check, it was determined that the driver had active warrants out of Carroll County, while Fletcher and the rear passenger had warrants for traffic violations.
All three individuals were arrested, and an inventory of the vehicle revealed a loaded .22 caliber revolver inside a yellow towel underneath the front passenger seat. Fletcher confessed that the gun was his, stating he had purchased it approximately one month prior for $65.00.
Fletcher was previously convicted of robbery in 2017 in the Circuit Court of Rankin County, Mississippi. He was on probation at the time of the offense.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Keesha D. Middleton.
