Vancleave, MS – Jeremy Green, 37, is facing over three decades behind bars after a federal court handed down a 404-month sentence for trafficking methamphetamine and illegally possessing a firearm. The sentence, delivered October 13, 2022, in U.S. District Court in Gulfport, Mississippi, closes a case rooted in domestic violence and a substantial drug operation.
The bust originated with a call to police on October 20, 2021, responding to a violent domestic dispute at Green’s residence. His wife sustained significant injuries – a fractured nose requiring three staples, and additional undisclosed wounds. After a brief standoff, law enforcement took Green into custody. A search revealed he was holding 80 grams of methamphetamine and a .45 caliber pistol that was later determined to be stolen.
But the initial arrest was just the tip of the iceberg. Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) quickly uncovered a wider operation. Evidence showed Green wasn’t just holding for personal use; he’d been actively distributing the drug, moving a staggering 20 pounds of methamphetamine in the single month before his arrest. The firearm, authorities confirmed, wasn’t for self-defense in the traditional sense – it was a tool of the trade, used to protect his drug business.
A federal grand jury indicted Green on February 23, 2022, charging him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Green ultimately pled guilty to both charges on June 27, 2022, effectively sealing his fate. The guilty plea expedited the sentencing process, allowing the court to impose the lengthy prison term.
“This case highlights the dangerous intersection of drug trafficking and firearms violence,” said U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca. The ATF’s Special Agent in Charge, Kurt Thielhorn, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to dismantling these criminal networks. While LaMarca and Thielhorn released statements, the real story is the damage Green inflicted on his victim and the community through his relentless pursuit of profit.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Erica Rose prosecuted the case, securing the conviction and the substantial sentence. Green’s 404-month sentence – equivalent to over 33 years – sends a clear message: in the Southern District of Mississippi, trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine while armed will result in a severe penalty. The New Orleans Field Division of the ATF spearheaded the investigation, demonstrating a commitment to federal drug enforcement.
