Jeremy Richards, Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Person Under Age 21, South Dakota 2023
Pierre, SD - A U.S. District Court has sentenced 29-year-old Jeremy Richards of Mission, South Dakota, to five years and one month in federal prison, six years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, for his role in distributing methamphetamine to a juvenile under the age of 21.
A federal grand jury indicted Richards in August of 2022. He pleaded guilty on February 27, 2023.
The conviction stems from conduct that occurred between January 1, 2021, and January 1, 2022, in Todd County, South Dakota, wherein Richards distributed methamphetamine to a juvenile who was between 16 and 17 years old.
This case was investigated by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case.
Richards was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Richards' sentencing took place on May 22, 2023. He was found guilty of Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Person Under Age 21.
The investigation and prosecution of this case were supported by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
The U.S. Marshals Service is responsible for the custody of Richards.
