Ex-DEA Pilot Faces Consequences for Fudging Mission Numbers

Jeremy S. Peres, a 44-year-old former DEA pilot from Denver, Colorado, has been handed a one-year probation sentence and ordered to pay $4,368 in restitution for submitting false Flight Hazard Pay Certificates (FHPCs).

According to court documents, between November 2011 and July 2012, Peres falsified 44 FHPCs, claiming he flew missions he did not actually pilot or co-pilot. The deception resulted in Peres receiving hazard pay totaling approximately 25 percent of his daily salary.

The scheme was uncovered when Peres's supervisor noticed discrepancies in the DEA paperwork. Peres initially attributed the errors to flying an FBI plane, but investigators found this claim to be false.

As a DEA pilot based in Colorado, Peres was entitled to hazard pay for flying missions under hazardous conditions. However, he exploited this system by submitting false certificates, causing the DEA to pay him an additional $4,368.

This case was investigated by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Edgar handling the prosecution.

Jeremy S. Peres, 44, of Denver, Colorado, was sentenced to 1 year's probation and ordered to pay $4,368 in restitution on November 27, 2013 for making and using a false document knowing it contains false statements. He is no longer employed by the DEA.

Peres was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 26, 2013 and pleaded guilty to making and using false documents on August 15, 2013.
