Jeremy Werneburg, Meth Distribution and Firearm Convictions, Iowa 2021

A Carroll, Iowa, man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring. Jeremy Werneburg, 41, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

According to court documents, Werneburg was previously convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in November 2007. This conviction precluded him from legally possessing guns.

Evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings showed that Werneburg and others distributed over 150 grams of pure methamphetamine from November 2017 to December 2018. On October 7, 2018, law enforcement conducted a controlled buy of over 27 grams of pure methamphetamine from Werneburg. A search warrant executed on his vehicle on November 9, 2018, revealed a handgun and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine hidden in two separate compartments.

United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand presided over the sentencing hearing, where Werneburg was handed a 120-month prison sentence. He will also serve a 6-year term of supervised release. Werneburg remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
