Published May 29, 2020

A Sioux City man, Jeremy William Lillich, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his role in distributing methamphetamine in the Sioux City area. On Thursday, May 28, 2020, Lillich was sentenced to 262 months in federal prison, following a guilty plea to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Lillich, 45, of Sioux City, Iowa, admitted to being involved in the distribution of methamphetamine, with the intention of selling it in and around Sioux City and other places. The defendant was arrested after law enforcement searched his vehicle, where they found approximately two pounds of methamphetamine and twenty-eight grams of cocaine.

The arrest took place on February 3, 2019, at a car wash in Sloan, Iowa, where Lillich was with co-defendant Patrick Steffens. Lillich was driving the vehicle, but Steffens was behind the wheel due to Lillich not having a valid driver's license. A K-9 unit detected the presence of drugs in the car, leading to the search and subsequent arrest.

Lillich's criminal history includes two prior felony drug offenses, manslaughter, assault, and other crimes. The defendant's plea agreement included an admission of selling methamphetamine.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, which consists of law enforcement personnel from various agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Sioux City Police Department.

Lillich was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. As part of his sentence, Lillich must also serve a ten-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Lillich is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case file number is 19-4022, and more information can be found at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
