BLUEFIELD, W.Va.—In a shocking turn of events, a Princeton man has been brought to justice for his role in the cocaine trade. Jermaine Jones, 30, pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine in federal court, sending shockwaves through the community.
The case is the result of an investigation by the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, who commend the tireless efforts of their team in bringing Jones to justice. ‘Cocaine was the rage in the 1980’s. It is coming back with a vengeance and is far more potent than ever before,’ said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. ‘My team is focused on stopping dealers from building the cocaine trade. We don’t want cocaine to become the epidemic it was decades ago.’
Jones admitted to distributing a quantity of cocaine to a confidential informant near Bluewell in Mercer County on March 30, 2018. He further admitted to selling cocaine on four other occasions in March and April of 2018, as well as possessing an additional amount of cocaine on April 4, 2018, at his residence in Princeton.
When authorities searched his residence, they found not only cocaine but also two pistols. Jones faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on January 31, 2019.
Assistant United States Attorney John File is handling the prosecution, while Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber presided at the plea hearing. The court has scheduled Jones’s sentencing for January 31, 2019.
The investigation and subsequent guilty plea serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of the cocaine trade and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat it. As United States Attorney Mike Stuart so aptly put it, ‘we don’t want cocaine to become the epidemic it was decades ago.’
