Jerry Harris and David Gibson, Heroin Conspiracy, Indiana 2018

A South Bend, Indiana duo has been found guilty of heroin conspiracy after a four-day jury trial.

Jerry Harris, age 38, and David Gibson, age 47, were found guilty of conspiring to distribute over a kilogram of heroin in the South Bend area. The jury deliberated for about three hours before reaching a guilty verdict.

Harris and Gibson were indicted in March 2018 for their roles in the heroin conspiracy. The investigation, led by the DEA and ATF, uncovered a large-scale heroin operation in the Miami Hills area of South Bend.

According to evidence presented at trial, Harris and Gibson conspired with at least six other individuals to sell heroin in the area. The group used a shared cellphone for customers to arrange purchases, with over 80,000 contacts during the time of the conspiracy.

The investigation included search warrants on five houses and cars, as well as undercover law enforcement officers purchasing heroin from members of the conspiracy on 28 separate occasions between March and October 2017.

Harris and Gibson directed the sales conducted by those who sold heroin to the undercover officers. Both men face a minimum of 10 years to life incarceration and are scheduled to be sentenced on January 30, 2020.

Gibson was recently convicted of carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime in Wyoming and is currently serving a 12-year sentence.
