Jerry Lee Olson, Unlawful Sale of Firearm Silencers, Wisconsin 2021

Published January 19, 2021

A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for his role in the unlawful sale of firearm silencers in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Jerry Lee Olson, 63, of Outagamie County, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and three years' supervised release by U.S. District Judge William C. Griesbach on January 12, 2021, for his guilty plea to unlawfully transferring a firearm silencer, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 5861(e).

Olson, a licensed federal firearms dealer doing business as Warrior Arms LLC, was federally licensed to sell firearms regulated by the National Firearms Act, including firearm silencers. However, he failed to obtain approval from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) before transferring at least 17 firearm silencers in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The silencers were subsequently recovered by the ATF. There is no evidence that the silencers were used in criminal offenses or transferred to persons who were otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms.

Olson surrendered his federal firearm licenses, and as a convicted felon, he is now permanently prohibited from possessing firearms.

'In the wrong hands, firearms silencers can be used to lethal effect,' said United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger. 'That is why the Justice Department vigorously enforces the laws governing their sale and holds irresponsible firearms dealers accountable.'

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Funnel.

Olson's sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
