Jeryel Winfield, Narcotics Conspiracy, New York 2026

A 52-year-old Binghamton man has been convicted of his role in a significant narcotics conspiracy that spanned several years. Jeryel Winfield pleaded guilty to narcotics conspiracy, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum of 40 years.

The crime dates back to 2019, when Winfield began consorting with Joseph S. Zaso and others to sell heroin. Winfield acted as a source of supply for and associate of Zaso, distributing quantities of heroin and cocaine to the latter. To facilitate his illicit activities, Winfield utilized Cash App and Facebook.

Winfield admitted to receiving proceeds from his involvement in the drug conspiracy. Notably, Joseph Zaso was previously convicted in connection with the case.

The case was the result of an extensive investigation by the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Chief Scott Forster, the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam, New York Field Division, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti led the prosecution in the case. Sentencing is scheduled for September 23, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

According to the charges, Winfield conspired with others to sell heroin between 2019 and May 26, 2022. His role in the conspiracy has resulted in a guilty plea, with the sentence to be determined at a later date.
