Published October 20, 2020

Fentanyl and heroin have plagued the streets of Fostoria, Ohio, and now a local man is facing federal charges for his alleged involvement in the trade.

Jesus Alejandro Degollado, 29, of Fostoria has been indicted on five counts related to his alleged intent to distribute fentanyl and heroin, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, on August 13, 2020, Toledo police stopped Degollado's vehicle after observing multiple felony arrest warrants issued in Lucas County. During the search of the vehicle, officers found approximately 96 grams of fentanyl, 128 grams of heroin, a loaded semi-automatic handgun with 14 rounds of ammunition, and drug trafficking supplies.

Degollado has a prior conviction for trafficking heroin on January 15, 2015, in the Seneca County Common Pleas Court, making him ineligible to possess a firearm. If convicted, Degollado could face enhanced penalties due to his prior felony drug trafficking conviction.

An indictment is merely an allegation, and Degollado is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Deyana Unis and Alissa M. Sterling. If convicted, Degollado's sentence will be determined by the court after a review of factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal record, his role in the offenses, and the characteristics of the violations.

The maximum sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
