Jhamall K. McGaughy, Sex Trafficking, Michigan 2020

A Detroit man has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to conspiring with others to force and coerce at least 6 women into prostitution in the Detroit area, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider.

The guilty plea was made by 37-year-old Jhamall K. McGaughy, who faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced on May 5, 2020.

According to court records, McGaughy recruited women whom he knew struggled with drug addictions and used that addiction for his profit. He would give them heroin and crack cocaine at first and then require them to work as prostitutes in order to get money to buy more drugs from him.

McGaughy manipulated the supply of drugs to keep them on the edge of withdrawal symptoms, known as being 'dope-sick,' to coerce them into acts of prostitution. He also used force against some of the women if they tried to purchase drugs from other suppliers.

The case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Detroit Division, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Thomas Franzinger and Dan Hurley.

The indictment against McGaughy charges him with conspiring with others to force and coerce at least 6 women into prostitution. He is currently awaiting sentencing.

Jhamall K. McGaughy, 37, is the defendant in this case. He faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison.
