Jill Marie Jones, Concealment of Funds Intended to Support Acts of Terrorism, Arizona 2024

Published February 7, 2024

A Chandler woman was sentenced to 78 months in prison and 25 years of supervised release for concealing funds intended to support acts of terrorism.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona, Jill Marie Jones, 37, was sentenced on Monday by United States District Judge Dominic W. Lanza.

Jones pleaded guilty to Concealment of Funds Intended to Support Acts of Terrorism, in relation to her online activities and communication with an individual she believed to be a member of al Qaeda.

As early as 2019, Jones posted anti-American content on social media platforms, and in 2020, she began communicating online with an individual who was actually working for the FBI. She expressed her support for al Qaeda and their struggle against the kuffar, or non-believers.

On May 18, 2020, Jones was asked if she could spare any money to buy weapons for al Qaeda to kill American soldiers. She responded that she could use the COVID stimulus checks provided by the U.S. government to send money to the purported al Qaeda member.

Jones purchased a $500 prepaid credit card using the COVID stimulus money and sent the card information to the individual with the message, 'may it help them to be victorious.' She intended for the funds to be used by al Qaeda to purchase rifle scopes for use against American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Jones was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amy Chang, David Pimsner, and Lisa Jennis, District of Arizona, Phoenix handled the prosecution.

Jones' case number is CR-20-0634-PHX-DWL, and her release number is 2024-015_Jones.
