Jimmy Laverne Holmes, Receiving Child Pornography, Florida 2013

A Fleming Island man has been sentenced to more than 7 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the Internet.

U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard sentenced Jimmy Laverne Holmes, 58, to seven years and eight months in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the Internet.

According to court documents, an FBI agent in Jacksonville began an investigation to identify individuals who had access to and/or were trading images and videos depicting child pornography over the Internet.

Using specialized software, the agent determined that a host computer in the Jacksonville area was hosting images of child pornography using a particular peer-to-peer file sharing program.

The agent made successful connections to the host computer through the Internet and downloaded several video files directly from the host computer that depicted child pornography.

Further investigation traced the subscriber information to Holmes's residence in Fleming Island.

On September 24, 2013, FBI agents and other officers executed a search warrant at Holmes's residence and seized, among other things, several computers and other items of electronic media.

Holmes was at the residence and told the agents, among other things, that he knew that child pornography was illegally and that recently he was downloading and watching child pornography two or three times per week.

Subsequent analysis of Holmes's computer media revealed that it contained a total of 203 videos and 247 images depicting young children being sexually abused.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
