Lynnfield, Massachusetts resident Jinbin Ren, 38, has been charged with a serious crime that's leaving a trail of financial devastation in its wake. According to a federal indictment, Ren was part of an international gift card fraud conspiracy that involved romance fraud, elder fraud, hacking, theft, and other scams.

The scheme, which was uncovered by a Homeland Security Task Force investigation, saw Ren and his co-conspirators acquire stolen gift cards from victims across multiple states. These gift cards were then used to purchase high-value electronics, which were shipped to Ren's warehouse in Salem, New Hampshire. The electronics were then consolidated and reshipped to China, with the conspirators using the Chinese messaging application WeChat to coordinate their activities.

The indictment alleges that Ren and his co-conspirators used cryptocurrency to facilitate their transactions, making it difficult to track the flow of money. The electronics found in Ren's warehouse were linked to gift cards that had been fraudulently obtained from American victims.

Ren is facing serious charges, with the conspiracy to commit wire fraud carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The full extent of the damage caused by this scheme is still unknown, but it's clear that Ren and his co-conspirators were making a significant profit from their illicit activities.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, with authorities working to identify and bring to justice all those involved in the conspiracy. As the full details of the scheme come to light, it's clear that Ren and his co-conspirators will face serious consequences for their actions.

The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in the District of New Hampshire on July 22, 2026.
