Joey Little, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Florida 2018
Broward County Resident Sentenced to Prison for Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition
A 57-month prison sentence has been handed down to Joey Little, a resident of Broward County, Florida, after he pleaded guilty to being a felon unlawfully in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The crime dates back to June 21, 2016, when Little began posting photos and videos on social media that showed him in possession of a firearm. During one of the videos, he discharged the firearm in a residential area. On January 11, 2018, law enforcement officers found a Taurus .9mm pistol fitted with an extended magazine in a vehicle outside Little's home. The gun was discovered in a lunch bag in the passenger seat.
Little had previously been convicted of a felony, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. His guilty plea and subsequent sentencing were the result of an investigation into Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime by bringing together law enforcement and local communities.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg commended the investigatory efforts of the ATF in this matter. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anita G. White.
The sentencing occurred on June 7, 2018, before U.S. District Court Judge James I. Cohn.
According to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the PSN program has been reinvigorated to target violent criminals and reduce violent crime in local communities. Little's sentence serves as an example of the consequences of violating the law.
