John Alton Knight, Jr., Methamphetamine Distribution, Florida 2022

Published April 26, 2024

A convicted Port Charlotte drug dealer has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found in possession of over 2,700 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 49 grams of fentanyl.

John Alton Knight, Jr. (58, Port Charlotte) was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it, according to a U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber ruling.

Knight entered a guilty plea on April 26, 2023, after being arrested on August 9, 2022, by deputies from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. Deputies found evidence of Knight's intention to distribute the drugs, including a scale, plastic baggies, a drug cutting agent, and vacuum-sealed bags.

The case was investigated by the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan handling the prosecution.

Knight's arrest and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution in Florida. The case highlights the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to disrupt and dismantle these operations.

As Knight begins his 12-year prison sentence, the community can take comfort in knowing that those who seek to distribute and sell illicit substances will face the consequences. This sentence sends a clear message that the distribution of methamphetamine will not be tolerated in our state.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of our law enforcement agencies to keeping our communities safe from the scourge of methamphetamine. We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who seek to profit from the sale of these deadly substances.
