On August 21, 2003, the United States Department of Justice filed a federal indictment against John Flanagan, charging him with violent crimes in the Eastern District of Virginia. The indictment alleged that Flanagan committed a series of violent acts, including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, resulting in serious bodily injury to multiple victims. These incidents occurred over a period of several months, causing widespread concern in the local community. The investigation, led by the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force, was extensive and involved collaboration with local law enforcement agencies. Following a thorough review of the evidence, Flanagan was taken into custody and subsequently charged with multiple federal crimes. The case was assigned to the Virginia Eastern District Federal District Court, where it was set to be tried. The charges against Flanagan included assault with intent to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence. On February 14, 2007, Flanagan pleaded guilty to all charges, and on March 30, 2007, he was sentenced to 210 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The defendant's guilty plea and subsequent sentencing marked the end of a long and complex investigation, and brought closure to the victims and their families.
