John Jones, Heroin Conspiracy and Firearm Charges, Louisiana 2021

NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a heroin conspiracy and firearm charges.

John Jones, 46, was sentenced by United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe on March 18, 2021, after previously pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and one count of possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.

According to court documents, Jones and others conspired to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin between sometime prior to July 19, 2017, and on or about June 29, 2018. Additionally, on or about April 5, 2018, Jones possessed three firearms.

Jones was prohibited from possessing firearms because he was convicted in 2002 of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the New Orleans Police Department in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorneys Maria Carboni and Jonathan L. Shih were in charge of the prosecution.

The Court imposed a $200 mandatory special assessment. Jones was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.

Jones, a 46-year-old New Orleans resident, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and one count of possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.

Jones was sentenced in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 18, 2021.

The total sentence imposed on Jones includes 10 years of imprisonment and five years of supervised release.
