Waynesboro Man Charged with Six Bank Robberies
HARRISBURG - John Raymond Smith, a 38-year-old Waynesboro man, has been charged with six bank robberies, according to a felony Information filed yesterday by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Smith allegedly robbed two banks each in Greencastle and Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and in West Virginia in 2014. The maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses is 120 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $1,500,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, the Greencastle and Washington Township Police Departments, and the West Virginia State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daryl F. Bloom.
Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The charges against Smith include six counts of bank robbery. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 120 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $1,500,000 fine.
