John Turscak, Attempted Murder, Arizona 2023

Published December 1, 2023

Tucson, Arizona - A shocking attack at the Federal Correctional Institution Tucson has led to the charging of 52-year-old John Turscak with attempted murder.

According to a complaint filed by the United States Attorney's Office on December 1, 2023, Turscak is accused of stabbing another inmate, D.C., who had previously been convicted of federal crimes in another district, approximately 22 times with an improvised knife.

A complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Attempted murder, assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury are the charges brought against Turscak. These offenses carry significant penalties: attempted murder and assault with intent to commit murder each carry maximum penalties of 20 years' incarceration, while assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury each carry maximum penalties of 10 years' incarceration.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by the United States Attorney's Office, District of Arizona, Tucson.

It is essential to note that the charges against Turscak are merely allegations and have not been proven in a court of law. The outcome of this case will depend on the evidence presented during the trial.

The United States Attorney's Office, District of Arizona, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
