Man Sentenced for Assaulting Federal Officer in Mitchell, South Dakota

A Mitchell, South Dakota, man was sentenced to federal prison for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

On May 14, 2020, John Willard Arcoren, III, forcibly assaulted, opposed, impeded, intimidated, and interfered with a law enforcement officer employed by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The incident involved physical contact.

Arcoren, 40, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 16, 2020, and pleaded guilty to the charges on August 31, 2020. The conviction stemmed from the incident that occurred in May.

On November 5, 2020, Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court, sentenced Arcoren to eight months in federal prison, followed by eight months of home confinement, two years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
