Jonen Castillo, Trafficking Firearms, Florida 2023

Jonen Castillo, a 24-year-old Orlando man, has pleaded guilty to smuggling goods from the United States, specifically hiding five firearms and nine firearm magazines inside record players and mailing them to a recipient residing in Canada.

According to the plea agreement, in June 2023, Castillo concealed the firearms and magazines and mailed them to the recipient in Canada. The exact date of the crime was June 2023.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu.

Castillo's plea is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Castillo faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

As part of the plea agreement, Castillo has admitted to smuggling the firearms and magazines, which is a serious federal crime. The maximum penalty for this crime is 10 years in prison.
