Jorden M. Owens, Methamphetamine and Fentanyl Trafficking, Missouri 2024
A harrowing crime scene unfolded in St. Louis on December 12, 2024, when Jorden M. Owens, 23, of Florissant, led police on a high-speed chase while in possession of a stolen car, a gun, and drugs.
Owens, behind the wheel of a stolen Lexus RC350 coupe, was spotted by St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers near the intersection of Page Boulevard and Vandeventer Avenue. The officers began following Owens on Grand Boulevard, but he refused to stop, prompting them to use spike strips to safely apprehend him. Owens fled at a high rate of speed, putting the lives of innocent bystanders at risk.
At the intersection of 7th Street and Cerre Street, Owens struck and injured an employee of the City of St. Louis Traffic Division, before crashing into her work truck. He was subsequently arrested after fleeing the crash on foot, despite his violent attempts to resist the arrest.
During the arrest, officers found a Glock .40-caliber pistol equipped with an auto sear, or 'switch,' that rendered it into a fully automatic weapon, in the bag Owens carried. The car contained three cell phones and a total of 824.7 grams (1.8 pounds) of methamphetamine and 342 grams of fentanyl.
Owens is scheduled to be sentenced on November 3 and faces up to 40 years in prison for each count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, which are both punishable by five to 40 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney James Delworth is prosecuting the case.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who choose to engage in violent and reckless behavior, and the importance of law enforcement's efforts to keep our communities safe.
