Colombian National Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for CSAM Receipt
Alexandria, Va. - A Colombian national residing in Virginia was sentenced to 8 years in prison for receipt of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Jorge Antonio Escobar, 50, downloaded and saved images and videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including depictions of prepubescent minors.
Escobar's crime was discovered after agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) began an investigation into individuals sharing CSAM on the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing network. The investigation led to an IP address traced back to Escobar's residence in Leesburg.
Escobar admitted to using BitTorrent to search for images of young girls.
On December 30, 2025, Escobar pleaded guilty to receipt of CSAM.
Escobar's 8-year prison sentence will be followed by 15 years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by HSI Washington, DC, with assistance from the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Lyndi McVey for the Eastern District of Virginia and Trial Attorney Nadia Prinz of the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) are prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
