Jorge Luis Villanueva, 35, Pleads Guilty to Illegal Re-Entry in Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS – Jorge Luis Villanueva, a 35-year-old Honduran national, has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry of a removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and 1326(b)(1).
According to the bill of information, Villanueva re-entered the United States after being previously deported on September 11, 2013.
Villanueva faces up to two years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee at sentencing.
Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating this matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Villanueva is expected to be sentenced in the coming weeks. The case is a significant blow to those who seek to evade our nation’s immigration laws.
