Published April 9, 2015

A 54-year-old man from Georgia has been charged with wire fraud after allegedly swindling approximately ten investors from Adams County, Pennsylvania, out of $350,000.

Jorge Salazar, also known as J. Michael Salazar, was indicted on November 12, 2014, and was recently taken into custody in Kentucky after a six-month investigation.

According to the indictment, Salazar posed as a licensed attorney and investor from Atlanta, Georgia, and promised his victims a return of three times their initial investment.

However, Salazar allegedly misappropriated the funds for his own personal use, rather than investing them as promised.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph J. Terz is prosecuting the case, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a term of supervised release, and a fine.

Salazar's sentence will be determined by the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account the nature and seriousness of the offense, as well as the defendant's history and characteristics.
