Jose Antonio Garcia, Cocaine Trafficking, Iowa 2014
Davenport Man Sentenced for Cocaine Trafficking in Iowa
A Davenport man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring in the Quad Cities area. Jose Antonio Garcia, age 44, was sentenced by United States District Judge John A. Jarvey to 108 months imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Garcia was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following the imprisonment and to pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund. The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt.
According to court documents, over the course of many years, beginning in the early 2000’s and continuing until about June 17, 2013, Garcia distributed cocaine in the Davenport, Iowa, area. On June 17, 2013, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant for a residence associated with Garcia and his spouse, co-defendant Leann Perez.
At that residence agents located, among other things, over one-half kilogram cocaine, digital scales, and packaging material. This case was investigated by the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department and the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. Garcia was identified as the mastermind behind the operation and was found to have distributed large quantities of cocaine to numerous individuals in the Quad Cities area.
The sentencing of Garcia serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The Davenport Police Department and the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement will continue to work together to identify and prosecute those involved in the trafficking of illicit substances.
