Jose E. Guerrero, Violent Crime, Maryland 2011

On October 27, 2011, a federal grand jury in the Maryland District of Columbia District (MDD Federal District) indicted Jose E. Guerrero for his alleged involvement in a violent crime.

According to the indictment, Guerrero was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1958(a), and one count of attempted murder in aid of racketeering activity, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1959(a)(5).

The charges stemmed from an alleged plot to murder a rival gang member in the Baltimore area in 2010. Guerrero was accused of conspiring with other individuals to carry out the murder.

A search of Guerrero's residence and a seized cell phone revealed evidence of the planned murder.

Guerrero's trial began in late 2012, with the prosecution presenting testimony from cooperating witnesses and other evidence to support the charges.

After a two-week trial, the jury delivered a guilty verdict on both counts against Guerrero. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving 10 years.

The case highlighted the ongoing struggle to combat gang violence in the Baltimore area and the role that federal authorities play in investigating and prosecuting such crimes.
