Jose Perez, Cocaine Attempted Possession, Massachusetts 2025

Boston, Massachusetts - A Brockton man was detained after allegedly attempting to purchase 15 kilograms of cocaine, according to federal court documents.

Jose Perez, a 47-year-old Brockton resident, was ordered detained pending trial on June 24, 2025, after a federal court in Boston ruled that he posed a risk to the community.

Perez is charged with one count of attempted possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. He was arrested on June 11, 2025, after communicating with undercover law enforcement about purchasing the illicit substance.

According to court documents, Perez agreed to meet with undercover officers in Framingham on June 11, 2025, to exchange $150,000 for 15 kilograms of cocaine. The narcotics provided to Perez were, however, sham cocaine.

Perez allegedly placed the sham cocaine into the hidden compartment of his vehicle before being taken into custody. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $10 million.

Perez's current status is detained pending trial. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Mackenzie Duane of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
