February 20, 2013, a federal grand jury in the District of Maryland returned a 22-count indictment against Joseph Anarumo, charging him with various violent crimes.

The indictment, filed on February 19, 2013, alleged that Anarumo, a former Maryland State Police trooper, committed numerous acts of violence and corruption while in office. The charges included conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and using a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court documents, Anarumo allegedly conspired with others to rob a Maryland armored car company, and then carried out the robbery in March 2012. During the robbery, Anarumo and his co-conspirators allegedly used firearms, putting the lives of the armored car guards at risk.

As a former law enforcement officer, Anarumo's alleged actions were particularly egregious, as he had sworn to uphold the law and protect the public.

The case against Anarumo was highly publicized, with many in the community expressing shock and outrage at the alleged crimes. The indictment served as a stark reminder of the importance of holding public officials accountable for their actions.

Ultimately, Anarumo pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. His conviction served as a warning to others in positions of power that they will be held accountable for their actions.
