A Coeur d'Alene man has been sentenced to prison for a brutal assault that left a woman with a broken nose.

Joseph L. James, 30, of Plummer, Idaho, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, followed by three years supervised release, for assault resulting in serious bodily injury, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

James was also ordered to pay $6,577.49 in restitution to the victim, who was assaulted on August 12, 2013.

According to the plea agreement, James admitted to grabbing the woman by the hair, shoving her to the ground, and breaking her nose during the assault.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police.

James appeared before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Coeur d'Alene.

The crime was committed in the city of Plummer, Idaho, and the sentencing took place on an unspecified date, but was announced in relation to the events of August 12, 2013.
