OAKLAND — In a brazen act of violence, Oakland man Joseph Michael McBee, 30, robbed a U.S. mail carrier early on the morning of October 10, 2023, leaving the victim with bruising to both arms.
According to court documents, McBee stole a 2015 Kia Soul parked on a residential street in Oakland. He later arrived at a Toyota dealership in Daly City, where he assisted two others, Ebony Reeves and Felix Wilson, in stealing a 2023 Toyota Camry. Reeves and Wilson have pleaded guilty to separate charges.
The three defendants then drove around San Francisco, searching for a mail carrier to rob. At around 10:25 a.m., they spotted a U.S. mail truck and mail carrier. McBee exited the stolen Toyota and approached the victim, demanding that he hand over his postal keys. When the victim refused, McBee pushed him to the ground and stole his wallet. Over 500 pieces of mail were stolen in the heist.
McBee was finally apprehended on October 31, 2023, following a lengthy car chase and subsequent foot chase. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín handed down the sentence of five years in federal prison for McBee. In addition to the prison term, Judge Martínez-Olguín also sentenced McBee to a three-year period of supervised release.
The case was a result of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), with the assistance of Assistant U.S. Attorney Ivana Djak and her team.
