Montgomery County Man Pleads Guilty to Gun and Drug Offenses

A 38-year-old man from Nelliston, New York, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm as a felon. Joseph Mitchell, a resident of Montgomery County, admitted to working with another person to distribute over 350 grams of methamphetamine throughout August 2024.

Mitchell's crimes were discovered during a search warrant executed at his home on September 5, 2024, which led to the recovery of two rifles and one shotgun. As a result of his prior felony convictions for attempted robbery and narcotics possession, Mitchell could not lawfully possess the firearms.

The DEA investigated the case with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner is prosecuting the case.

Mitchell faces a mandatory prison term of at least 10 years and up to life, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
