Joseph W. Cromp, Sr., Possession of Firearms and Ammunition, New York 2020
Grimy Times has learned that a Oneida County felon has admitted to possessing firearms and ammunition. Joseph W. Cromp, Sr., a 46-year-old man from Blossfield, New York, pleaded guilty to the crime on an unknown date.
Cromp was found to be in possession of a Rohm .22 caliber revolver and an Izhmash SAIGA 7.62 x 39 mm AK-47 style semiautomatic rifle, as well as 113 rounds of rifle ammunition, following a search warrant executed by the New York State Police on October 2, 2019.
The search warrant was issued after Cromp was involved in a confrontation with another man earlier that evening.
Cromp was previously convicted of the felony offense of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree in Oneida County Court on February 9, 2001.
As part of his guilty plea, Cromp faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. Cromp will forfeit both firearms and all ammunition seized during the execution of the search warrant at his residence.
Cromp is scheduled to be sentenced on October 27, 2020.
The case was investigated by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the New York State Police, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Southwick, with assistance from the Oneida County District Attorney’s office.
The prosecution of this case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the U.S. government’s violent crime reduction efforts.
