Published March 3, 2025

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (Grimy Times) - Joshua Sneed, 35, of Bluefield, Virginia, pleaded guilty today to possession of stolen money. According to court documents and statements made in court, Sneed was employed as a title clerk for an automotive sales and service business in Bluefield, West Virginia.

On March 15, 2024, Sneed was working at the business when a customer purchased a 2008 Bentley Continental for $37,761. The cash was deposited in the business’s safe. However, Sneed used his access to the business’ computer system to change the transaction from a cash purchase to a credit card purchase.

Sneed admitted that he took the $37,761 in cash from the business to his residence in Bluefield, Virginia. The defendant also prepared two bank deposit slips, one for $60,100 and another for $60,222.10, but never made the deposits with the bank. Sneed attempted to change the record of the Bentley Continental sale back to a cash purchase but was unable to edit the transaction history.

The defendant was fired from his position on April 15, 2024. Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the plea and commended the investigative work of the West Virginia State Police – Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Sneed is scheduled to be sentenced on July 7, 2025, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The defendant also owes at least $120,322.10 in restitution.
