Juan Arturo Martinez, Passport Fraud, Florida 2022
Tampa, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, 62-year-old Juan Arturo Martinez, a Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to using a passport secured by a false statement and passport fraud.
According to court documents, Martinez submitted a U.S. passport application in 2002, stating his place of birth as Mission, Texas, a claim he repeated in 2012 during a passport renewal application. On September 11, 2021, Martinez used the fraudulent passport to gain entry into the United States at the Port Canaveral Seaport.
On April 12, 2022, Martinez submitted another U.S. passport renewal application, once again claiming Mission, TX, as his place of birth, despite having no permission to be in the country.
As a result of his guilty plea, Martinez faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Karyna Valdes.
Martinez's actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a willingness to deceive authorities in order to gain entry into the United States.
As a result, Martinez now faces the possibility of significant prison time and a permanent stain on his record.
