On March 4, 2020, the United States Department of Justice announced that a federal grand jury in California charged Juan Carlos Jimenez, a 32-year-old resident of Los Angeles, with a series of violent crimes. The charges included two counts of murder in aid of racketeering, one count of attempted murder in aid of racketeering, one count of conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering, and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. According to law enforcement officials, Jimenez was a member of a violent street gang that operated in the Los Angeles area. The indictment alleged that Jimenez participated in the murders of two individuals who were rival gang members, as well as an attempted murder of a third individual. The indictment further alleged that Jimenez conspired with other gang members to commit these crimes, and that he possessed a firearm during the commission of the attempted murder. If convicted, Jimenez could face a maximum of life imprisonment for the murder charges and a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment for the attempted murder charge. On December 16, 2022, Jimenez was convicted on all counts. He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
